 Record Description TCL Site Gazetteeer Reference MUK106. Upper Waterfall, below sheepfold. NY83070174, 435m. Single isolated juniper overhanging the river at top edge of this small cliff formed from Namurian sandstone strata. The presence of juniper indicates some enrichment, possibly from the Faraday House Marine Band. The only other trees present here are rowan. Further visit required to complile Plant List. Aspen Grove in the ravine 200m below the falls recorded as MUK107.

 Additional Notes This isolated juniper is a very fine example of the final surviving presence of a pioneering woodland species known to have been present throughout Swaledale and the whole of Britain from the tundra stage of the early post glacial.
